I noticed a BlueSG lot being operated 5 minutes walk from my mom's place and was thinking of giving it a try. It cost $0.50 per minute if not on a 1-year plan or $0.33 per minutes + $15 per month for the 1-year plan. I downloaded the BlueSG app on my phone, submit my details and a few hours later, my application was approved and can start renting the car for a 1-week period.
As I was on course at NUS from 19-21 Feb 2019, I figured this would be a good time to give the service a go. I had actually ridden my bike to NUS in the morning. After my first day lesson had ended, I decided to leave behind my bike (parking free at NUS) and hitched a ride in colleague's car to the BlueSG lot that was right next to her block in Bukit Merah.
It was quite an exciting experience as this was my first time driving an electric-only vehicle. The car was in good condition and within minutes, I drove the car home in peak traffic. The 56 minutes ride cost me $28 which I thought was ok as Grab would have cost $37 with surge pricing. If I was on the 1-year plan, I would only pay $18.50. I guess if you drive more than 3 times a month, the 1-year plan would make more sense.
The BlueSG car was rather pleasant to drive. The accelerator was a tad hard to step on but otherwise had sufficient power to cope with Singapore traffic. The only issue which I had with BlueSG was finding a parking lot in Tampines area. When I drove the car out from Bukit Merah at around 6.20pm, I could not find a single lot in Tampines! It was only when I was nearing Tampines that I was able to secure a lot near my mom's place. This is not good lor... it would be silly if I have to park at Pasir Ris and then take a bus. Hopefully, there will be more lots to accommodate drivers returning from work.
